MC,
First, I want to apologize for my part in not leading well last night. I was exhausted and still wrestling through some areas of sin in my own heart. And I didn’t bring my best to the community.
So, why didn’t our time in Luke 4 work last night. I’ve thought a bit about it last night and this morning. Here are some factors.
1. Too Large. The reality is that our MC is too large to all discuss together. This is simple group dynamics. If we can’t fit around our kitchen table, it is too big. This can be solved short term and long term. Short term, we can divide up into two groups when we do the story. Long term, make babies.
2. Not Sold on the Mode. We have talked each of the last 4 weeks about how we are going to tackle Luke each week and why we have chosen to do that. Yet we are still coming back to the same question. At some point we need to stop talking about how we are going to marinate in the Bible and start marinating in the bible.
3. Out of Rhythm. The way we have decided to approach the Luke chapter on Mondays requires a weekly rhythm. It requires that you are ripping through it in community throughout the week. And it requires that we are all there on Sundays to pull it all together at the gathering.
4. Dry. Here’s the deal. If we were all soaked in the Story all last week, and all day on Monday, when we come together last night and read the stories of Luke 5 together, we would be rivetted not board with it.
5. Tired. Again, this comes back at my leadership. But we ate a great meal (Dang good job Leslie!), made the I-HELP meal (ditto, Leslie), and then tried to get to the bible on the couches in the dark at 9:15. Not exactly a recipe for success.
I love you guys. I love our MC. God is moving through us. Don’t be discouraged. Be encouraged. But let’s press on together!
Chris
Let’s do some brainstorming. How should we spend our time and money this week in light of the fact that Jesus REALLY did die on the cross for our sins?
Also, go here and sign up to pray. Do it. Now. No excuses! http://mdcprayer.blogspot.com/2009/03/first-prayer-weekend-april-3rd-5th.html
So, as a king/prophet I would say last night was a particularly phenomenal night for our MC.
Prophet: We really hammered out and got some clarity on biblical leadership. We also decided to focus in some Jesus stories.
King: We made some strategic decisions about how we are going to move forward in mission. Our discussion on leadership looked like it helped some lights turn on and imaginations start to turn for what it could look like for each of us.
Priest: ???
I’d love to hear from everyone else how you felt about last night. Did we take steps moving closer to each other?
But I’d love to hear what you guys
This should get the comments flowing…
What are you/we thinking about Open Table?
What should we do next Monday after I-HELP dinner?
Are you communing with God this week?
How can we pray for you?
On Monday night we went around the room and talked about the state of our personal communion with God over the last month or so.
Accountability Time: Assuming no one has attained perfection in your communion with God, we all could take steps towards a deeper and more vibrant communion with God. So what step, commitment, vow, etc will you make to go deeper? (Only put down things you are actually willing to do)
Everyone please read this post by Tim Chester. I think it is very timely and helpful for us as we process through what mission looks like for our MC.
Post reactions below…
So, we have been praying for a week about our MC and I-HELP and Open Table. What are you guys thinking so far on them? Hearing anything specific?
Hey guys,
This is a reminder to be praying about our involvement in I-HELP and Open Table. Ask for the Spirit to confirm it for us or move us in a different direction.
If we do end up going that way, Tempe Project Homeless Connect could be a phenomenal way to get us involved with folks. Check out this PDF. They need volunteer names ASAP, though. So if you are interested and can take off on a Friday morning, let me know by Sunday night.
Joe wanted me to put a post up and have everyone comment with your word from last night. What word would you use to describe your experience with TCC/MC thus far? Why?
